PHILOSOPHY

The workshops are adapted and differentiated according to the age of the children as follows:

• 1st and 2nd grade,
• 3rd and 4th grade and
• 5th and 6th grade.

For each category you can choose between two themes, which relate to the robotics construction that the children will be working on.

During the workshop, children have the opportunity to build and program their own robot. In each module, robotics is approached thematically, helping children to connect their existing knowledge of the world with something new and different. In groups, with the guidance of the teachers, they complete the robot construction, observe it and speculate about how it is made, how it works and its special features. Thus, by getting in touch with the basic concepts of programming, they put their robot into operation. They experiment, test, adjust and observe their construction. Experientially, they understand engineering principles and take an active role in the experimental process by disproving or verifying their initial assumptions about the structure and function of the construction. At the end of the workshop, all groups together give a presentation of their robots.

STEΑM & Educational Robotics

Educational robotics is the practical application of theoretical knowledge, thus giving students the opportunity to consolidate concepts, to love Science and Technology and to realize that they can benefit and benefit society and the world in this way. At the same time it is a very useful tool for the development of the child’s structured thinking as well as fine motor skills.

Educational Robotics is a new Science in which elements of software development, engineering and the study of human behavior are combined. In fact, its first integrated applications are appearing in areas such as medicine and industry. Educational robotics is inextricably linked to STEM education, as it makes full use of technology and mathematics. Through educational robotics, children learn to build and program robots, while staying up to date with current technological developments.

In early robotics lessons, students build their own robot using processors, sensors, motors and building blocks. Then, using specially designed software, the students use a computer to drive their robot, acquiring engineering and problem-solving skills. Robotics technology therefore prepares children for their future careers.

Educational Robotics and Computational Thinking

Robotics involving Technology in the Educational process, is of great interest to children and is a first-class opportunity for them to learn and assimilate concepts that will help them both in school and in their future careers. Robotics also, through the STEM methodology at early ages, is of particular value as it enables children to cultivate some important skills, such as Computational Thinking.

Computational Thinking is the ability of an individual to successfully apply the following steps to problems in their daily life:

• Subtraction: separating necessary from non-essential elements
• Segmentation: dividing the problem into sub-problems, which when solved lead to the solution of the original problem
• Algorithmic Thinking: dividing the solution into discrete steps
• Pattern Recognition: fully understanding the steps that led to the solution, so that we can apply them to other similar problems
• Use of technology: using technological tools to make the solution we found more easily applicable in the future!
